The series of black and white photographs of trees, plants and water was taken on the Baltic Sea, in the Black Forest and in Argentina.
The forest evokes different associations in each of us. While for some the darkness, the abundance of plants and the loneliness represent a threat and trigger downright fears, for others the forest is a place of inner contemplation, the density of the trees a kind of security that surrounds people like a naturally grown space and allows thoughts to wander inwards to the self, to the deepest fears, desires and fantasies. It is a place where you can encounter your own self. There is a solitude here that is both calming and frightening.
The density of the plants and the absence of any landmarks create an almost claustrophobic atmosphere of disorientation.
In my photographic work, I have long been interested in forest myths, especially the legends and fairy tales that I remember from my childhood in the Black Forest. Even back then, the forest exerted an eerie threat on me, but at the same time an inexplicable fascination.
